Comedian and a former winner of both Helium’s NC Funniest Person and Carolina’s Funniest Comic, Matt White, is performing at The Fruit tomorrow nigh, Wednesday the 10th. Here is what he told us:

What makes you laugh? 

Hmm, the unexpected, things that I don’t see coming, misdirections, clever and witty word play, interesting situations and how people deal with them, or not. Overall life in general. Life presents everyone with laughable moments, we just have to choose how we handle them.

What makes a joke?

The ability to play off of things. There are many types of jokes, but a joke to me is anything that produces laughter. Timing and Delivery can turn any thought into something worth laughing at. 

Favorite place to perform?

On a stage in front of an audience looking to create a memorable moment. Socially interacting with people is when I'm at my best. The classroom was one of my favorite places to perform. 

What will you/won't you say?

I will say anything to get a laugh, as long as there is some type of personal connection to me. I didn’t get into comedy to offend others, but it’s going to happen at some point, at least that’s how Orlando Jones broke it down for me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and with that it’s inevitable that some feathers will be ruffled.

What prompted you to become a class clown?

Hm. I noticed things that others didn’t and was quick to react to them. I just kinda fell into it. Wasn’t really something I was seeking to do.
