Gogol’s Dead Souls

Leo Egger (founder of The Eno River Players), Hamzah Jhaveri (actor), Dominic Sullivan (actor) and Nico Taylor (actor).

Actors from The Eno River Players theater, Hamzah Jhaveri, Dominic Sullivan and Nico Taylor will perform over 30 roles in Bulgakov’s adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic novel, Dead Souls. Join us in watching them portray the life of a con man, Chichikov, at The Fruit (buy tickets below)!

What have you done in the past month that most resembles the behavior of a Czar?

Dominic: I bought a bottle of Fiji water – boujee – and then I reused the bottle to flex.

Nico: Abdicated.

Hamzah: Doordashed a hot dog to my childhood home. Czar behavior.

Leo: I tried my best.

If you could swap bodies with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?

D: Choupette Lagerfeld – that cat has a serious net worth.

N: Oscar Beiber. Woof.

H: There's this guy on my TikTok who knows how to make all these different kinds of gourmet butter. I'd like to be him for a day.

L: That slinky dog in Toy Story because of the fun of going down stairs.

Confidence men/women, aka con artists, have existed since the beginning of times. What sets Chichikov apart from others?

D: Our Chichikov is just really hot and sexy – I would.

N: He’s got a big heart.

H: Chichikov is not your run of the mill Bernie Madoff. His cons are grassroots... so to speak.

L: He means well.

What's the craziest thing you've done for money?

D: I worked at a law firm.

N: Volunteer.

H: I once worked at a hydroponics farm in the basement of a Tribeca skyscraper. We harvested small, edible flowers for Michelin-starred restaurants across Manhattan. I technically was not paid real money, but I did get a lunch voucher if I worked 6 or more hours in a day.

L: Got interviewed by LetsTalkDurham. Right? Right, guys?
